Anita Prohászka

”Thinking about the theme of peace, I began to reflect on what this concept means to me personally. I didn’t want to associate it with war or destruction, as these are all contrary to the idea itself. Instead, I focused on how the feeling of peace manifests within me, which led me to choose the image of a pregnant woman as its embodiment.”

The painting depicts a symbolic world in which the notion of peace emerges through the unity of the female body, motherhood, and nature. The composition is defined by two female figures who, complementing one another, evoke the cycle of life and the fragile presence of peace. The vertically positioned figure represents a pregnant woman, symbolizing the safest and most nurturing environment for new life. The horizontal figure beneath her represents Mother Earth, as nature provides everything necessary for cultivating both inner and outer peace – for ourselves and for others. In the background, the word “peace” appears in many languages. The color palette is inspired by the hues of earth, sky, and water, symbolizing harmony and balance. This work was painted for the Festival of Peace, organized by the LeoniArt Project in Genoa, Italy, where works by 103 artists were exhibited together, each offering a personal interpretation of the theme of peace.

Originally from Hungary and now based in Northern Ireland, Anita Prohászka holds a degree in Art Teaching. She has presented solo exhibitions in Hungary and Slovakia and has participated in various group exhibitions. After relocating to Belfast, her artistic practice entered a period of suspension, shaped by the demands of professional life. Currently, her primary focus is on figure drawing, though she continues to explore other subjects as well. She finds the human body endlessly fascinating—beautiful, complex, and expressive—and views it as a powerful means of conveying inner emotions. Her upcoming projects will continue to center on the human form, moving toward a more abstract approach that emphasizes the beauty and miracle of human existence.
