createPeace:
can art define peace?
The world seems to be drowning in crises and conflicts. The relentless tide of negative news can feel overwhelming, leaving many with a deep sense of powerlessness.
In order to respond constructively to this sense of powerlessness, we need courage and a genuine willingness to bring about deep change. Many people look for ideas and images that stand against the flood of negative news and offer a different perspective: positive images of peace and possibility.
If “peace is not everything, but without peace, everything is nothing,” how can we give shape to our longing for peace today?
What image would you create that others might want to join, expand, and make their own?
The createPeace initiative calls on artists and cultural practitioners to contribute their unique images of peace. Each work creates fresh avenues for exploring peace together — virtually and in person.
The createPeace initiative is organized by Matthias Ries. To date, artists from the following countries and territories are participating:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dagestan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, England, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Sweden, Syria, Taiwan, Türkiye, Ukraine, Uruguay, the United States, Venezuela, Yemen, Zimbabwe.
