According to Hindu Vedanta, “Sat” is the existence, the eternal reality of every being. It’s the “is-ness” of everything. “Chit” is consciousness, the awareness or knowledge that allows you to understand that things exist. “Ananda” is a pure joy or bliss, which is not a fleeting pleasure. It’s a deep, unshakable peace and contentment that is our natural state when we aren’t distracted by worry, fear, or desire. It’s the feeling of being whole, lacking nothing. Sat-chit-ananda is a reminder that your core self is not a limited, troubled person, but a timeless, aware, and blissful presence.
“Through my paintings, I explore my relationship with sukoon (Arabic for contentment) and my immense gratitude towards the universe. This sense of fulfillment is rooted in my meditation practice and the beautiful childhood I experienced in Birla Colony, a small industrial town in Central India. The freedom and trust I felt in my childhood have made me secure, content, and adventurous. They have empowered me to live confidently in a foreign country, Singapore, and to travel around the world. I have found liberation from the constraints of adult life through meditation, a liberation that is also evident in my abstract style, connecting me to my younger self. I believe that if joy is remembered deeply enough, it becomes reality, a sentiment I vividly convey through my canvas. Finding your inner peace doesn’t separate you from the tangible aspects of society. In meditation, I cultivate gratitude by reflecting on the deeper layers of reality beyond material appearances. This body of paintings represents my acceptance of whatever life brings. The erratic, playful marks in this body of paintings have helped me rediscover the lost playgrounds of my childhood. It has helped me manifest bliss in my life.”
