Liang Wang
“This painting is inspired by an artist residency I attended in the Lake Cowichan, BC in November 2023. My time there was defined by a slow, quiet rhythm, days spent wandering the woods, observing the local wildlife, and simply being present. While the subject is a local cafe, I used a dreamlike, non-local color scheme of warm pinks and oranges to capture the mood rather than the literal reality. For me, this work embodies the essence of peace: the solitude I found in nature allowed me to reconnect with my inner self. I believe that if we could all carve out more space for this kind of stillness, spending time with nature and our own thoughts, the world would naturally become a gentler place. My vision of creating peace is about reducing the noise of modern life to find that quiet, internal sanctuary.”
Liang Wang is a Vancouver-based artist originally from Taiwan, whose work explores themes of memory, identity, and the atmosphere of place. Holding a BFA from OCAD University, he creates dreamlike, vibrant paintings that often filter everyday scenes through a lens of nostalgia and stillness.
