“True peace begins within us. I would recognize it first through the development of deep self-awareness and an authentic connection of each individual to themselves. Only when we find inner peace are we able to create harmony with others. As Tom Ford beautifully said, ‘The most important things in life are the connections you make with others’ — and indeed, these connections can only flourish from a foundation of inner wholeness. Thus, the relentless tide of negative news would be replaced by a profound sense of belonging, compassion, and human unity.
My image envisions a gallery installation of a tree constructed from delicate threads, with a strong emphasis on our deep connection to nature, organic shapes, and the way our biology and the natural world function. The entire artwork is rendered in white, symbolizing purification, cleanliness, peace, balance, and healthy growth. The tree features visible roots and organic growth unfolding within a narrow, enclosed space. This enclosed space serves as a metaphor for the specific country we live in, or even for Earth itself, where we all share a confined environment. The image as a whole symbolizes positive thoughts and a positive connection both to ourselves and to others — a connection that is essential in order for us to live in peace and true wholeness within the reality we inhabit.”
Yara Basis is an artist from Daliyat al-Karmel, Israel, born in 1999, who combines a strong background in multidisciplinary art, design, and craftsmanship. After completing a preparatory program at Shenkar College in Tel Aviv, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Haifa. Her practice includes sculptures and abstract drawings that evoke organic movement and explore the biological and psychological dimensions of human nature, as well as the connection between the natural world and spirituality. A central motif in Yara’s work is the tree, which she uses as a metaphor for a living nervous system that reaches into the depths of the subconscious; it reflects the hidden connections between thoughts and emotions and their constant influence on personality, identity, and behavior.
