Anna Hvid
“As I come from one of the most peaceful places on Earth, I cannot claim to know much about war. Yet it is something that increasingly occupies my mind, as news from around the world seems filled with it. Waking up one day in a peaceful world—a world in which people and countries could devote their time and resources to our most urgent shared challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity, and environmental protection, rather than fighting and destroying one another—would certainly remove an immense and ever-present worry for my daughter’s future, and for everyone else’s.”
Anna Hvid is a self-taught painter based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Working primarily in acrylic and vinyl paint on canvas, her work explores the tension between figuration and abstraction through stylized figures, bold color, and a strong interest in surface texture. Drawing inspiration from sources as varied as her grandmother’s woven tapestries and the drawings of Amedeo Modigliani, Hvid’s practice reflects an ongoing dialogue between control and intuition. She typically works in series, using each body of work to explore a specific theme or visual obsession before moving on. Her paintings have been exhibited in Copenhagen and across Denmark, and featured in several group shows highlighting emerging and established artists.
