Katja Strunz

In my paper collage “In Formation”, I explore the fusion of the ancient art of folding with contemporary satellite imagery. The images, captured from space, depict natural phenomena – such as California’s forest fires, the depletion of water sources, and an African salt lake – while also revealing traces of human impact. These aerial views evoke connections to biological structures, reminiscent of tissue patterns, the interior of an organism, or even veins – transforming macrocosmic landscapes into microcosmic forms, and vice versa. To me, peace is not a static state but a dynamic process, unfolding both inwardly and outwardly, converging into a web of interconnectedness and the fundamental principle of interdependence.
Katja Strunz is a German artist. Her constructivist language of folding, unfolding and falling revolves around the interaction of time and space and the materiality of form.
