Melanie Ballerstein

Mariana Bassani

In my work, I approach the topic of peace from the perspective of childhood. The children in my paintings stand before or in an abstract and colorful world — a world they themselves shape. They use color and imagination to create their own space. Children have a clear, unobstructed view of the world. They see injustice, they sense peace — even before they can name it. Within them lies the power to think new things, to question old things, and to build bridges where adults often see walls. With my paintings, I want to remind us that peace also means remembering: the child within us. What children need, what we need. Perhaps this is precisely where a path to finding one another again lies — in wonder, in play, in creation: “When children shape the world, peace arises.”

Melanie Ballerstein is a painting artist from Brandenburg an der Havel (near Berlin). She primarily deals with the themes of childhood and femininity.
