"In Buddhism, the Windhorse (Lungta in Tibetan) symbolizes the vital life force and energy present within individuals and throughout the world. It represents inner strength, good fortune, and the capacity to overcome obstacles. As an emblem of spiritual potential, it conveys the ability to meet life's challenges with grace and resilience. Often depicted on prayer flags and in artwork, the Windhorse is believed to carry blessings and positive energy. I chose the Windhorse as an image of hope, aspiration, and the human spirit moving beyond darkness. In Bhutanese tradition, it carries our aspirations out into the world. In this painting, it emerges from a turbulent and uncertain space, moving forward with strength and freedom. I imagine peace not simply as the absence of conflict, but as the moment when humanity finds the courage to move forward together to dream again, to create again, and to believe in a shared future. The Windhorse carries that possibility beyond the storm."

Born in eastern Bhutan, Pema Gyeltshen grew up in Thimphu, the country's capital. In 1998, he joined Voluntary Artists Studio Thimphu (VAST), where he learned the fundamentals of drawing and painting. The knowledge and experience he gained there proved invaluable as he went on to pursue a career as a dedicated artist. Pema discovered his love of art at a very young age, particularly during his school years. He recalls often drawing, sketching, or scribbling on the backs of his notebooks instead of concentrating on the lesson.
