Sigrún Kristjánsdóttir

Sigrún Kristjánsdóttir was born in 1961 in Iceland. She showed an early interest in photography and received her first camera at the age of eleven. The countryside’s landscape influenced her artistic creation over the years. The sea, the mountains, the cliffs, the hills, and the heaths surrounded her.

When she started taking photographs seriously, it was of landscapes and nature. It is most interesting to capture the variability of the landscape in light, colors, and shadows. To express beauty and capture what never comes again. Sigrún also uses photography to create works that come from her writings of short texts (ideas). It is life and the purpose of life that are at the forefront of her mind in these works.

These works are derived from life experiences that Sigrún had during her adolescence. In these works, the idea is paramount, and the interpretation of the concept follows through composite photographs.

“For me, it’s a symbol of peace. I was walking on the beach a few days ago. I hadn’t been there long when I saw a stone heart (love and peace). Next to the stone heart was another stone that I saw as a symbol of Mother Earth. It all fits together: the lupine, the heart, and nature, a symbol of peace.”
